fitting kitchen units
Fitting kitchen sink unit or base unit
still editing this blog adding bits as and when i can
Fitting a kitchen sink unit is the same for both types of units whether it's a drawer unit or sink unit, with them both being the same height and maybe width as well.
If your kitchen is anything like mine that I built it's kind of fell off the back of a lorry, no really it did, well sort of , I was working on fitting someone's kitchen and it was getting put in skip, and being the tight butt like I am I decided to recycle it, it looks good though. Still a few tweaks to finish off, but because of me being employment and financial constraints I'm waiting for the fairies to finish it off for me, or when I get a job which comes first,
anyway I digress.
Depending on how you or where you get your kitchen from shop bought or second hand.
Questions to ask yourself.
1. What do you use your kitchen for
2. who uses the kitchen
3. how much have you planned on spending
4. have you planned for health and safety
5. HAVE YOU planned out your kitchen, ie got an idea of what it's going to look like, there is a few programmes on the net that are free where you can plan your kitchen in a 3d model, one such programme is the Ikea designer, also you can use the google sketch programme
6. there is other ways of doing it in a plan , you could also use good ol pen and paper.
Dry fit your units to get an idea of what things will look like. And you may even find bits missing.
FIRST THING TO DO. Get your floor level. If your units did not come with adjustable legs , like mine did, just the unit straight onto the floor, Don't do it like me an totally forget to level the floor, then have to take your unit off the wall. Because the front edge is higher Yes I forgot,
you can use self levelling screed/ compound / concrete/ cement. Just make that floor level, search the net for floor leveling, or "how to level a floor" or some connotation there of
The kitchen units should be the same height or near enough depending on whether its second hand., a bit scanky tatty looking and you need to cut bit off, if that's the case consider repair if not throw it, believe me it'll be worth it in the end.
Firstly you need to determine the height of your units, by measuring your unit, usually 800 to 900mm, or there about, and mark this off on the wall where you want your unit.
Get the biggest longest level you can get your hands on, ie builders level, ideally laser level kit, ohhh they are gorgeous. Or you could make your own level by using length of hosepipe and two plastic containers connected at either end, its called "a water level" use a browser to search the net. For how to make one, it'll take ten twenty minutes tops, here's a google search for

join the mark on the wall. Do the same couple of feet further along, basically join the dots, and make sure that this line is level
Floor level and unit built up, and ready to be put on the wall,
then you will need brackets to fit your unit to the wall, if these did not come with your unit then you can get them from any hardware shop, basically stainless steel l-shaped brackets
